A Florida man threatened to shoot a young Black girl who rang his doorbell to sell candy in a Facebook post that's sparked widespread outrage online.
In the now-deleted post on a Facebook community group, Tyler Chambers shared doorbell footage of a Black child who had visited his home in Tampa, Florida.
“You’re lucky we weren’t home to shoot your a— dumb b—," Chambers captioned the footage.
Chambers swiftly faced backlash over his comments aimed at the young child.
The child's mother, Beyond Shabazz, said her nine-year-old daughter, Sincere, and 11-year-old niece went to Chambers' home while selling candy around the neighborhood on April 14.
Before deleting the post and his social media account, Chambers accused the girl of acting as a "decoy" for an attempted break-in at his home, but didn't back up the allegation with any evidence.
“I saw that on my camera and have a wife and 7-month-old at home, which I will protect as you would. I was hot when I posted it which is why I deleted it right away I could have handled it a lot different,” Chambers wrote.
Shabazz said she filed a police report following the incident. The mother also launched a GoFundMe to help raise funds for her pending legal battle against Chambers.
“This could have been anybody’s child, and our job as parents is to protect our kids. My child does not feel safe in her neighborhood now due to this, and now every time she clicks on her Facebook or TikTok, she sees what this monster posted about her for the world to see,” Shabazz wrote. “I will not let this go under the rug. I promise I will make an example out of this fool.”
