A stabbing left a Texas politician injured and her husband dead.

According to CBS News, Bobbie Mitchell, who's currently serving as a Denton County commissioner in Lewisville, was hospitalized following a stabbing that killed her husband, Fred.

The politician's grandson, Mitchell Reinacher, was arrested in connection to the stabbing on charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The Lewis Police Department said officers responded to a report of an assault at roughly 4 a.m. on Monday (April 1). Authorities found Bobbie and her husband with stab wounds. The pair was taken to a local hospital, where Fred was pronounced dead.

Reinacher was present at the scene when officers arrived.

“The crime scene remains active as LPD crime scene investigators and detectives continue processing evidence and working to determine the circumstances that led to the attack," police said in a statement.

According to Lewisville Mayor TJ Gilmore, Bobbie successfully underwent surgery and is "expected to fully recover."

“Please give the family time and space for healing," Gilmore said.

Bobbie served as the first Black mayor of Lewisville before transitioning to serving on the Denton County Commission. The Texas politician and Fred shared two children, Darin Mitchell and Rhonda Reinacher, the mother of the stabbing suspect.

"The City is holding our Commissioner and her family close to our hearts,” Gilmore said in a statement. “We are grateful for the quick response from our Police, Fire, and the hospital staff who have taken great care of Commissioner Mitchell. If you've ever been at an event where Bobbie has prayed over you, please lift her and the family up as she has lifted our community.”
