CDC Recommends All US Domestic Travelers Get Covid-19 Tests Before Flying

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its recommendations for domestic travelers in the US: get tested for COVID-19 as close to your flight departure as possible.

The new advisory came as part of the agency's website update this month and states that all domestic travelers "consider getting tested as close to the time of departure as possible (no more than three days) before your trip."

This includes travelers who've been vaccinated and boosted, too. Originally, testing before domestic travel was only recommended for people who hadn't received their complete vaccine doses and booster shots.

After you return from your trip, the CDC also now recommends getting tested particularly "if your trip involved situations with greater risk of exposure such as being in crowded places while not wearing a well-fitting mask or respirator."

Additionally, the CDC says travelers should be aware of local Covid-19 restrictions — don't assume all the rules are the same across states and cities.

The new guidance comes as multiple states report increases in new cases. Read the full recommendations HERE.
